Hundreds of Delhi Metro workers gathered today on Jantar-Mantar to protest against the gross violation of labor laws by the DMRC officials as well as the contract companies of the DMRC. It is worthy to note here that the contract workers of DMRC, including the ticket-vending operators, housekeepers and security guards, have been demanding for the payment of minimum wages, the facilities of ESI, PF, double rate payment for overtime, weekly-off and other facilities provided by the labor laws like the Contract Labor Act, 1971, Minimum Wages Act 1948, Workman’s Compensation Act 1923, etc. Against these violations of the labor legislation, hundreds of DMRC workers gathered at the Jantar-Mantar and burnt the effigy of E.Sreedharan and the DMRC administration. The DMKU also submitted a charter of demands with memorandum to the office of the Regional Labor Commissioner, with hundreds of signatures of DMRC workers.

गोरखपुर के मजदूरों को उस समय बड़ी जीत मिली जब कल शाम कारखाना मालिकान ने तालाबंद मिलों को चालू करने और निष्कासित मजदूरों को वापस लेने पर सहमति जताई। 18 निष्कासित मजदूरों में से 12 को तुरंत काम पर रख लिया गया है और बाकी 6 मजदूरों को एक आंतरिक जांच के बाद रखा जाएगा। मजदूरों ने मालिकों पर दबाव बनाकर यह तय कराया कि जांच समिति में प्रबंधन की तरफ से कोई नहीं होगा। इसमें ऑफिस स्टाफ के दो सदस्य तथा एक मजदूरों द्वारा चुना गया प्रतिनिधि होगा। दूसरी ओर, संयुक्त मजदूर अधिकार संघर्ष मोर्चा की आज हुई बैठक में फैसला लिया गया है कि यदि घायलों को मुआवजा देने, मजदूरों पर दायर फर्जी मुकदमे वापस लेने, गोलीकांड की न्यायिक जाँच कराने तथा मुख्य आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार कराने की उनकी मांगों को प्रशासन गम्भीरतापूर्वक नहीं लेता है तो मजदूर सत्याग्रह का तीसरा चरण शुरू किया जाएगा।

Workers in Gorakhpur achieved a major victory in their struggle when the factory owners agreed to start the two locked out mills from June 3 and take back the dismissed workers. 12 of the 18 workers will join work immediately and the remaining 6 will be taken back after a domestic enquiry. The workers also forced the owners to accept that no one from the management will be in the enquiry committee; it will have two members from the office staff and one workers’ nominee.
